RAF spouse looking to rebuild connections after relocation?

Recently we've been contacted by the RAF Association telling us about their various services they have that can help to support spouses, the first of which is the Serve Connect Programme, launched through a collaboration between Nottingham Trent University, the University of Exeter, The Royal Air Forces Association and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. Here's all the details:

The Serve Connect Programme has been developed in response to the unique challenges faced by military families, particularly the frequent moves that can disrupt social networks, community ties, and support systems. Drawing on more than 20 years of research, the programme provides practical, evidence-based support to help participants navigate the challenges of relocation and establish meaningful connections in new communities.

Created by researchers from Nottingham Trent University and the University of Exeter, Serve Connect focuses on fostering connection, confidence and community among spouses and partners of serving RAF personnel. The initiative has been made possible through funding and support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, which is committed to strengthening the lives of serving personnel, veterans, and their families.

Participants attending the programme will have the opportunity to meet others with shared experiences of military life, learn practical strategies for settling into new locations, develop resilience during periods of change, and build lasting social connections that can support their wellbeing and quality of life. The programme is open to all spouses and partners of serving RAF personnel, regardless of gender, rank, length of service, or family circumstances.

Researchers involved in the programme highlighted the importance of social connection and belonging in supporting the wellbeing of military families. Through collaboration between academic institutions and military charities, Serve Connect aims to translate research evidence into practical support that can make a meaningful difference to the lives of RAF families.

The programme has been shaped by the experiences and voices of military partners, ensuring that the content reflects the realities of service life and addresses the challenges commonly associated with relocation. By bringing together research expertise and lived experience, the partnership seeks to provide relevant, accessible support for military families across the UK.

Serve Connect workshops are being delivered at RAF locations and community venues, creating opportunities for participants to engage with peers, share experiences, and develop skills that will help them adapt positively to future moves and transitions.

• 14^th September 2026: RAF Brize Norton
