Coming together to beat the January blues.

Community, a word which means so much to so many.


"The coming together of people to support one another to make us feel as though we are a part of something greater."


A strong community is a place of opportunity. Big or small, a community can provide countless opportunities, whether that is looking for your first job or starting your own business, a strong community can give you the support you need to succeed.


As we start the year off differently than we have ever experienced before, we believe it is more important than ever to get involved, keep in touch, reach out and stay connected.


As we enter another lockdown for many, life will be challenging. The pressure of home-schooling returns, remote working continues and running your business must happen, life can therefore become overwhelming very quickly.


In a ‘normal’ year, many people suffer from the ‘January blues’ a combination of different factors which affect our mood, such as the weather, debt, the amount of time since Christmas, breaking New Year's resolutions and low motivational levels.


With all that in mind, keep life simple. Strip things back to basics and together we can come together and beat the January blues.



Here are a few ideas to keep the blues at bay!


1. Plan your day the night before.

It will keep you on track throughout the day and you won’t miss anything, whilst trying to juggle those plates!


2. Get up & get dressed.

Don’t work from home in your pj’s and especially don’t just get dressed from the waist up! It will put you into the wrong frame of mind for the day.


3. Go outside.

It is so easy to work, work, work and put it off until the last job is crossed of the list you will never get outside. Plan it into your day if you need to. For your mental wellbeing, health, and sanity its best for everyone to get fresh air and exercise.


4. Drink plenty of water.

Disclaimer – you will wee like a racehorse! But drinking more - water- will make you think clearer and feel less lethargic.


5. Cut down on the caffeine.

Brews and strong coffee get us through, cutting it out completely would be disastrous for everyone in your household, not to mention the headaches, which are horrendous if you do it in one go - believe us it is painful so cut back gradually.


6. Set clear work boundaries.

Hold your hands up because we are all guilty of working longer than we should but if you start the year as you mean to go on your body and mind will thank you for it.


7. Cut back on endless scrolling and swiping.

It is not healthy and will often than not make you feel worse than you did when you started. Who ends looking at the thing they went onto look at in the first place? If you are on Pinterest then you will know how quickly 2 hours go by in a flash and the next thing you know you've ended up looking at dog room designs!! Wasted time you will never get back.


8. Downtime.

Relax, meditate, reflect, journal. We joke about turning to drink and chocolate to get us through the day, but our minds need to switch off before our bodies can turn off. If you are struggling to sleep, because your mind is too active, thoughts are racing, and you wake up feeling like you have not slept, then you need to give yourself more time to wind down. Sleep is the glue that holds everything together.
